Who we are
SHOTDEX — Screenshot Search (“the app”) is published by Peresoft Digital Innovations Ltd (“Peresoft”, “we”, “us”), a company founded in Nigeria. The app is offered worldwide. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: everything stays on your phone.
What the app reads
With your permission, the app reads the screenshots on your phone (and other photos only if you turn on “Search all images”). It reads their text, recognises details such as phone numbers, links, amounts, dates and addresses, and notes the main colours and objects in the picture. All of this is done on your phone by software inside the app.
Where it is kept
What the app works out is saved in the app’s private storage on your phone: the text read from each screenshot, its category, detected details, your searches, tasks and reminders. The app never copies your screenshots; it only remembers where they are.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send your screenshots, their text, your searches or anything else to Peresoft or to anyone else. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We do not sell personal data. If the app closes unexpectedly, a short error note is kept on your phone only; it contains no screenshot text and is never sent anywhere unless you choose to share it.
Permissions the app asks for
- Photos and media — to find and index your screenshots. You can allow only some photos, or turn access off in Android settings; search then covers only what the app can read.
- Notifications — only for reminders you create.
- Alarms and reminders — so a reminder you set goes off at the time you chose.
- Biometrics / screen lock — only if you turn on the app lock.
Backups
The app’s search data is left out of Android cloud backups and device-to-device transfers, so it does not leave your phone that way either. On a new phone the app reads your screenshots again.
Sharing
Information leaves the app only when you choose: for example when you share a screenshot, copy text, or tap Call, Email, Open in Maps or Search the web. It then goes to the app you picked, under that app’s own privacy policy.
Your control
You can remove any screenshot from search, exclude folders, turn off picture analysis, clear all search data in Settings, or uninstall the app, which deletes everything it saved. Deleting a screenshot also deletes what the app saved about it. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. This is true wherever you live: since the app processes everything on your device and sends us nothing, there is no personal data of yours that we control, for the purposes of data protection laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. We do not sell or share personal data.
Security
You can lock the app with your fingerprint, face or screen lock and hide its content from the recent-apps screen. Your data is protected by Android’s app sandbox; no other app can read it.
Children
SHOTDEX is not directed at children under 13 (or under the higher age at which local law requires a parent’s consent, such as 16 in parts of the European Union) and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page and the “last updated” date changes. Where a change is significant we will also tell you in the product.
